Please note that Heather only checks email once a day (from a laptop), often in the mornings (though that can vary). She rarely keeps a phone with her - the joys of being a farmer and working outside!! Heather will respond as soon as possible, which can sometimes be a day or two if things are particularly hectic on the farm. Thanks for your understanding :)

For volunteer requests, please indicate your availability and any other information you wish to share. We do ask for a minimum of 48 hours per volunteer request (a week is preferred). Life gets busy during the growing seasons and an advance request allows us to properly schedule out each week and ensure a more rewarding experience on both sides.

If you are contacting us to inquire about submitting an article or blog post, we appreciate your interest in posting on our site; however, we are not currently accepting submissions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I bring my dog (on a tour or during my farm stay)?
We do not allow any dogs on the farm. Dogs are the number one predator for chickens and we work very hard to keep our free-range chicken flock safe from all predators.
For farm stay guests, we do not allow dogs because we have guests that have severe pet allergies. We want our farm to be accessible to all guests, so we appreciate your understanding.
Are kids allowed on farm tours?
Yes, in general, kids are more than welcome to join on the farm tours. For the beekeeping tour, we have one child veil available. Typically we recommend that children by at least 8 years old since we do open up a bee hive. We have had mature children younger than 8 years old, but we rely on the parents to determine whether this tour is a good fit for their family members.
For Hiking with Goats, we are happy to tailor the tour to match the ability level of participants (including young children). This tour is one hour long and involves walking over uneven ground, including small but sometimes steeper hills.
What is included with the complimentary farm tour for Farm Stay guests?
We offer a general farm tour for our Farm Stay guests when they arrive. Each tour is different and tailored to the interests of each guest. We like to introduce guests to the farm, including our chicken flock, goats, and honey bees, to make them feel comfortable if they decide to explore the farm during their stay. The tour typically includes the vegetable and herb gardens, mushroom cultivation areas, solar panels, chicken coop, goat barn, and apiary. The farm tour is a great time to ask us any questions you may have!
I want to bring a small group for a farm adventure, how many people can your farm accommodate?
If you are looking for a private tour, we have hosted groups of up to 30 people (including children). Our barn venue allows us to host private groups of up to 12 people (we are limited by seating). We can host larger groups if food and/or seating are not required.

Where can I find your products?

We are big fans of farmer's markets, but we no longer participate in any of our local markets. As a small but diverse farm, we decided the time commitment was too much for our limited staff (i.e., Heather). Therefore, you can get our eggs, maple syrup, honey, produce, apple cider vinegar, herbal tinctures, and perennial plants (spring/early summer only) directly from the farm in Houghton, Michigan. We are happy to pre-package orders if you contact us (hello @ appleacres.farm) at least 24 hours before you plan to pick up your items.

Do you ship your products?
We do ship our herbal tinctures, but most everything else is available by local pickup only. Summers are incredibly busy and we are constantly balancing farming work with running a small business. We also believe in supporting local economies and we encourage others to seek out farmers and local producers in your area.

Can I volunteer at your farm?

Yes! We welcome volunteers from May through October. Please see our Volunteer page for more info.
