CSA Agreement
By purchasing a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) share with Apple Acres Farm you automatically agree to our CSA policy. A CSA is made up of local community members who purchase a share from a local farm prior to the growing season. By purchasing your share early in the season you are providing Apple Acres Farm with the capital to buy seeds, tools, row cover, irrigation and other supplies needed to run a farm and support a productive growing season.
A CSA allows community members to become personally invested in a local farm and a sustainable food system. We aim to provide crop variety and quantity. Many factors are out of our control and as a CSA member you share in the abundance and failure of crops. That may mean some weeks are lighter than anticipated and others are more abundant. This is a risk each member agrees to take when purchasing a CSA share from Apple Acres Farm. Therefore, refunds will not be given for any reason.
From mid-June to mid-October (16 weeks), a weekly produce share is provided to you for pickup (along with any share add-ons such as eggs, maple syrup, and/or herbal tinctures). The produce in any given week depends on what is in season. We grow, maintain, harvest and package your share and it is your responsibility to pick each share up in a timely fashion. As an off-grid farm, we do not have a walk-in cooler so your CSA share will not be refrigerated once it is packaged. We take pride in our produce and make every effort to harvest it at its peak; therefore, the sooner you can get your share home the better. If you are unable to pick it up, it is your responsibility to have someone collect it for you or to let us know you won’t be available for that week's pickup.
If you will be out of town, please let us know a week in advance and your options will be to either cancel your share for that week or organize another person to pick up your share. We do not make up missed shares. If someone else will pick your share up for you, it is your responsibility to make sure they know the correct location and pickup time. Forgotten shares will not be replaced.
It is your responsibility to keep the bags and boxes provided in good, clean order and to bring the empty box/bag back when you pickup your next share. You can also bring your own box to transfer the CSA items and leave our bag/box behind.
We do NOT wash the produce for you as this can cause it to spoil faster. We do rinse some soil off, but it is your responsibility to thoroughly wash all produce before consumption. To keep costs down and minimize plastic use, we bag as little as possible and often put multiple things in one bag or have items loose in the box. It is a good practice to take everything out of the bag/box when you bring it home, rinse and dry the produce then store as you desire.
We do not use any chemicals so may find a few bugs from time to time. We do try our best to keep this to a minimum, but they often hide in the nooks and crannies of lettuce, cabbage and other vegetables. A good way to check for and remove bugs is to submerge produce in cool water for five minutes and swirl it around. This will dislodge any insects and they generally will float to the surface. You can also add a pinch of salt to the water.
