Maple Syrup Making

Learn the ins and outs of how maple syrup is made in a small-scale operation

45 min
20 US dollars

Description

Experience the spring magic of maple syrup making at Apple Acres Farm. Join us for an outdoor adventure where you'll learn how ~40-50 gallons of maple sap is turned into one gallon of delicious maple syrup. During this 45 minute experience you'll learn about the entire process of maple syrup making, from tapping trees, to collecting and boiling sap, and finally, filtering the finished syrup before it is bottled. We'll spend time snowshoeing/hiking around our sugar bush (with 100 year old trees!) before we head into the sugar shack to see how the sap is boiled down in the evaporator. This experience is offered seasonally when the sap is flowing, usually mid- to late-March through mid-April. Sap flow is influenced by temperature and can be thus be variable depending on weather conditions. Each tour is unique and while our syrup making activities ebb and flow depending on sap flow, you will learn about each step of the syrup making process while enjoying the beauty of the spring in the woods. Bring your boots or snowshoes (if you have them) and get ready for a fun adventure in our Sugar Bush. Please dress appropriately for this outdoor tour.
