Natural Beekeeping

Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of honey bees with our natural beekeeping experience. Before heading to our apiary for a hive inspection, we'll first discuss the ins and outs of small-scale beekeeping, including the basics of a honey bee colony, hive equipment, and safety precautions for working with bees. If you are interested, we can also cover steps you can take to prepare your yard for beekeeping or simply to support your native pollinators. Each beekeeping experience is tailored to the specific interests of the group. No previous beekeeping knowledge or experience is required. You are welcome to interact with the bees during the hive inspection as little or as much as you are comfortable with, including taking photos. Our apiary is accessed from our outdoor goat pen. You will have an opportunity to meet and pet our goats during the beekeeping experience. This is an outdoor activity around livestock and insects, please dress appropriately. Light clothing, including long sleeves, long pants, and closed toed shoes are recommended when in the apiary. Mature children are welcome to join. Beekeeping veils (adult and child sizes) are provided.
